"Another fairy is born and and is brought by the winds to Pixie Hollow "
They say, the baby's first laugh is the most wonderful sound in the universe, and it's really true after I heard my baby's first "little" laugh yesterday around 6pm. JB and I were so happy that time. It's like magic to our ears!
The time I've seen my baby's first smile when she almost reached her 2nd month, it's like winning a billion dollars in the lottery, but this time, it's priceless!
Today is the arrival of my aunt and her husband from Bukidnon.
I'm so excited to see them.
I'm sure they're also excited to see baby Janine.
(I don't have much words to explain my excitement!)
What is thrush? Thrush is a fungal infection in your baby's mouth caused by the yeast Candida albicans. If you see white spots on the inside of your baby's lips and cheeks or on his tongue that don't easily wipe away (like spit-up does), they could be a sign of thrush.
Yeast grows in moist, warm, sugary environments — like the inside of a baby's mouth. If you're breastfeeding, your nipples can become infected with yeast when your baby latches on, which can then cause your nipples to be dry, sore, and painful during feedings. You're more vulnerable if you're stressed and your resistance is low. The yeast can also travel through your baby's digestive tract and come out on the other end, causing a diaper rash or vaginal yeast infection.
What can be done about it?
See your baby's healthcare provider. She'll probably prescribe an antifungal medication for you and your baby. If you're breastfeeding, it's important for both of you to be treated so that you don't continue to reinfect each other. It will probably take several weeks for the condition to go away once treatment has begun.
During treatment, be sure to wash your hands frequently and sterilize your baby's toys and pacifiers in boiling water. Applying an over-the-counter antifungal cream (clotrimazole) on your nipples can help you, as can taking ibuprofen.
How does thrush affect my baby?
While the yeast infection is annoying to you, your baby may show no ill effects at all. Some babies with thrush are more irritable and less interested in eating, however, because their cheeks and gums are sore.
When the clock strikes at 5:00 am, that’s the time when Janine takes her bath. Why so early? Because I go to work at 6:00 a.m. and my mom can’t do the bathing alone. Janine doesn’t really like being bathe, that’s why she typically whimpers every time she takes her bath time.
During the day when she was born up to the time she reached her 1st month, I was using Lactacyd blue [said the midwives]. I mixed a small amount [1 teaspoon] of Lactacyd into a ¾ cup of lukewarm water. When she reached her 1st month and up to now, I used J&J top to toe wash and and just like the Lactacyd, I don’t directly apply it on her skin. I still mixed it with water before applying it because baby skins are so delicate and needs proper care. I don’t even use baby powder after her bath because it may cause some skin irritations and prickly heat. What I only do is bathe her every day [except when she has a fever] because an everyday bath is enough to make your baby feeling fresh and clean.
After I gave birth to baby Janine, I stayed at home for more than 2 months before I came back to my work. It was never easy being a [young] mom, especially when you are a working mom. You need to leave your little one at home and spend 8 hours at work and goes back at home tired and stressed. In my case, I might get tired after a long period of work but whenever I see my baby at home, everything gets fine.
It was April 11 when I returned to my work and that time, I felt really sad. I could still remember the moment when my baby cried after I kissed her goodbye, I almost cry that time. I could really feel that she’s longing for me and it was never easy to me. My mom took care of my baby while I was away. Though I was working, my mind is at home and I really can’t resist myself from thinking of her. At all times, she brightens up my darkest day and she's my sunshine. That is why; I always missed her little grin whenever I am out.
Today, Janine turns 15 month old and she's scheduled to have her immunization.
She was given 2 vaccines: DPT2 and OPV 2.
DPT combines vaccines against three types of diseases: pertussis, diphtheria, and tetanus.
OPV is for protection against polio. It may be taken orally or through injection.
For first time moms, don’t worry if your baby is experiencing low-grade fever because it’s normal for some babies to experience such reaction after the injection. You can give your baby a paracetamol (drops) to alleviate her/his mild/moderate fever.
February 1, 2011 at exactly 2:55 pm: The day when my first baby arrived through normal delivery. She’s a cute little girl weighing approximately 4.9 pounds or 2.2 kilos. She was so little that time, so little yet warm.
We named her Mary Janine. “Mary” from my name Maria and “Janine” meaning “God is gracious”. At home, my husband and I calls her “Lang” or “Langga” short for “Palangga” meaning “My love” or “My precious one”. She’s everything to me and I am so blessed to have her in our life.
